When the new 56RX stump grinder came onto the market, James Jackman of Treeline Services, couldn’t wait to get his hands on the sought-after machine many arborists have been talking about.

Working in the south east of England since 1985, Treeline has been covering all aspects of tree surgery, making them one of the largest independent group of tree surgeons in the area, it’s no surprise that they needed one of the most powerful stump grinders on the market.

The radio controlled tracked Predator 56RX offers narrow access, high performance and capability for the big jobs, making it the perfect machine for Treeline’s operations. With a width of only 31 inches, the 56RX delivers serious results when tough access arises. The variable tracks quickly extend up to 46 inches, allowing for stability on rough terrain and inclines.

James said: “We have just purchased the all new predator 56RX from Predator, we previously had the 50RX and was very impressed with its power and maneuverability for a big machine. Its retractable tracks make it possible to get through most gateways which is always an advantage when competing on cost and timeframes for work.

“When it came to upgrading our 56RX it was a straight forward decision for my company to get another Predator machine. The Predator team is very accommodating, putting together a great part exchange deal for us. the whole process very easy.”

With a rear hydraulic PTO that caters to a variety of attachments including a powerful forestry mulcher and a seven-tonne winch, this machine quickly turns from grinding to a versatile clearance tool.

“The 56RX seems to have a lot of power with the most noticeable increase being a lot more low-end torque and the feedback from my operators of this machine has been nothing but positive with the machine being quieter and easier to maintain.”

At the touch of a button the variable tracks extend from 31 to 46 inches, allowing for excellent stability on rough sites and inclines, according to Predator. Combined with radio control and rugged tracks, this machine will handle any contract.

THE compact size and maneuverability of Predator’s 56RX stump grinder makes for minimal impact in woodlands and workable areas. Utilising the rear hydraulic power take off, and combined with a powerful forestry mulcher attachment, it quickly transforms into a highly capable ground-clearance machine.

The 56RX is both a high-performance tree stump grinder and compact powerpack; the mulching unit will comfortably handle green material from between 70–100 mm diameter.

For sites where right of way clearance is required and vegetation and tree stumps need to be removed, one unit capable of tackling both can be a huge advantage. The compact size of the 56RX also makes site clearance in residential areas much easier for the operator.

NARROW ACCESS – NO PROBLEM

Working as an arborist in London has its challenges, one of the greatest being able to get machinery into gardens with tight and narrow access points. After a tree has been removed, perhaps due to disease, safety or simply being in an inconvenient place - the stump remains, and a grinder is required to remove the root system.

With so many arboricultural professionals asked to remove tree stumps, and with the vast majority of stump grinders on the market designed without narrow access in mind, it’s essential that the operator has the right kit to tackle jobs that arise. That’s why Thor’s Trees, based in North London, purchased two narrow access Predator 360 stump grinders.

At only 26 inches in width, the 360 is much narrower than the standard garden gate and alleyway, making it simple for Thor’s Trees to remove tough access stumps with ease, especially within London properties that are shoulder to shoulder, often with difficult access.

The Predator 360 boasts an impressive cutting depth of up to 14 inches, making it one of the most productive pedestrian stump grinders available. With a fold over handle and a weight of 145kg, this machine is highly transportable.

The central pivot allows a wide cutting slew through the stump, turning a job that should be hard work into a simple process that can be repeated over and over without tiring the operator.

Lawrence-Thor, Managing Director of Thor’s Trees said, “I chose Predator as they’re the best on the market, they have a great reputation and their customer service is excellent.”

Lawrence mentioned that the 360 was a great choice, with a quick return on investment compared to hiring a stump grinder.

“In terms of ROI we managed to pay off the Predator 360 stump grinder in three months thanks to the accessibility to many jobs it enables.”

The maneuverable, well built, efficient, powerful machine has a patented multi-tip cutting system, delivering approximately 30% more performance than standard finger teeth. Combine this with the extra productivity the central pivot delivers, and the Predator 360 is in a league of it's own regards access and productivity.

“It has a great swing for such a compact grinder, at 812mm or sixty degrees, it’s unmatched by any other stump grinder on the market.”

Taking on projects of all sizes, Thor’s Trees offers a wide range of services including tree surgery maintenance, tree felling and removal. The team work with a variety of clients from domestic, through to private and public sector partners, estate agents, property management, planning development firms, and local schools.
